Convenient Access from Spring Branch
Most of Spring Branch sits about 5–8 miles from SMYL Dentistry, roughly 11–12 minutes by car, which makes us an easy choice when you want a dentist near Spring Branch. We are on N Shepherd Dr in Houston, a couple of blocks north of the Katy Freeway, so the trip is mostly a straight run east on I-10. Dr. Christina Vu, DMD, and Dr. Mitchell Mactier see neighbors from the whole district, from the older streets off Long Point Rd to the newer homes east of Bingle.
From the Ring Neighborhood Library on Long Point Rd in Spring Branch Central, drive east on Long Point, then south on Bingle Rd to the Katy Freeway frontage road. Merge onto I-10 east for about 4.3 miles, take the Shepherd exit and follow the frontage road to Shepherd Dr, then turn left, go north two blocks and turn right on W 6th St to 600 N Shepherd Dr Ste. 164, Houston, TX 77007 (see us on Google Maps). Families near Housman Elementary in Spring Branch East take Silber Rd south to the freeway instead, which is the short end of that range. The same Shepherd exit serves patients from Hedwig Village and Hunters Creek Village just to the south.
A Dental Home That Suits Spring Branch's Busy Households
Spring Branch began as farmland settled by German families. Karl Kolbe, who arrived in 1830, was the earliest settler, and the stream he lived beside gave the area its name. Pioneer names still line the map today on roads such as Gessner, Witte, Wirt, Blalock, Campbell and Hillendahl. The City of Houston keeps a short history on its Spring Branch Central page.
The district, in Harris County, runs roughly from US 290 and Hempstead Rd south to I-10, and from Beltway 8 east to Loop 610, with Memorial to the south and small cities such as Spring Valley Village nearby. Older single-family subdivisions sit beside apartment complexes, and since about 2007 many older houses have given way to new homes on large lots. Spring Branch is also home to significant Korean American and Hispanic communities. Most students attend Spring Branch ISD, which grew out of a school society founded in 1856.
Whoever you are, the routine is the same: a clear exam, plain-language findings and no pressure. Our dentists do not upsell, and you make the final call on every treatment. Ceiling-mounted TVs let you watch a favorite Netflix show while you are in the chair, which helps a long visit pass quickly.
Keeping Dental Costs Predictable in Spring Branch
In a district this size, cost can matter as much as distance. Households without coverage can join the SMYL Club, our in-house membership, for $354 a year. It includes two cleanings, two exams, one emergency exam and unlimited x-rays, plus savings on other work such as fillings and crowns. There are no deductibles or yearly maximums, the SMYL Club activates the same day you join, and the price assumes healthy gums.
Fewer return trips also keep the cost of care down, in time if not in dollars. With CAD/CAM in the office, crowns and bridges are often designed, milled and placed in one visit, so you are not driving the I-10 stretch twice for a single tooth. For a sudden problem, the office offers same-day emergency appointments whenever possible.
Timing matters too. The schedule runs Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, so parents can grab an early slot before work. Rush hour adds time on I-10 eastbound, mostly at the Loop 610 interchange, so allow a few extra minutes in the morning.
Everyday and Urgent Care from a Dentist Near Spring Branch
Preventative Dentistry
Routine cleanings and exams are the backbone of a healthy mouth, and they cost far less than repairs. Thin protective coatings called dental sealants can shield the grooves of back teeth where cavities like to start. Both fit neatly into an early Tuesday or Thursday appointment.
Emergency Treatment
A cracked tooth, a lost filling or sudden swelling should not wait for a convenient week. Call first, and the team works to fit you in with a same-day appointment whenever possible. Thanks to the freeway, help is only minutes away for most of the district.
Tooth Extractions
When a tooth is too damaged to save, or wisdom teeth are crowding the rest, removing it can end the pain and protect neighboring teeth. Our dentists explain why an extraction makes sense and what replacement options look like before you agree to anything.
Restorative Dentistry
Fillings, crowns and bridges bring broken or decayed teeth back into service. SMYL Club members save on many of these procedures, which helps Spring Branch households without insurance plan for repairs instead of postponing them.
Meet Your Houston Dental Team
Ten-plus years of practice sit behind Dr. Christina Vu, DMD, whose path ran from a Houston childhood to undergraduate work at UT and dental school at Western University of Health Sciences in California. General and cosmetic care are where her passion lies. She shares the schedule with Dr. Mac, the practice's Cosmetic & Implant Dentist, and spends her time away from the office with her husband and their golden retrievers.
Insurance, SMYL Club & Financing
If you do have coverage, the office works with a multitude of insurance providers and files the claims for you. You get a cost breakdown before treatment starts, so there are no surprises at checkout. Cherry financing, all major credit cards, cash and checks cover whatever insurance leaves behind.
What Patients Say
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is SMYL Dentistry from Spring Branch, and how do I get there?
Most of Spring Branch is about 5–8 miles from the office, roughly 11–12 minutes by car. You head south on Bingle Rd or Silber Rd to I-10, ride the Katy Freeway east to the Shepherd exit and go two blocks north on Shepherd Dr. A dentist near Spring Branch does not get much simpler to reach.
What should I do if I crack a tooth or lose a filling?
Call the office as soon as you can, and the team will try to see you with a same-day emergency appointment whenever possible. Until then, rinse with warm water, save any broken piece and avoid chewing on that side. A cold compress on the cheek can ease swelling while you wait for your visit.
Can a badly damaged tooth be saved, or does it need to come out?
Many damaged teeth can be saved with a filling, a crown or root canal treatment, and saving your natural tooth is usually the first goal. Extraction comes up when too little healthy structure remains or an infection cannot be cleared. Our dentists show you the x-rays and explain both paths before you choose.
Why are my teeth sensitive to cold drinks?
Cold sensitivity usually means the inner layer of a tooth is exposed or irritated. Common causes include worn enamel, receding gums, a cavity, a cracked tooth or an old filling that has started to leak. An exam and digital x-rays help our dentists find the cause, and treatment can range from fluoride to a new filling. Sensitivity that lingers deserves a prompt look.
Do you use digital x-rays?
Yes. The office uses digital x-rays, which show images on a screen within moments so our dentists can review them with you right away. Digital sensors need less radiation than traditional film. SMYL Club members get unlimited x-rays as part of the yearly membership, so imaging never becomes an extra line on the bill.
